In 2008, a group of concerned citizens of Barton County from all walks of life came together to discuss the economic situation and needs of the County.  They formed a steering committee that over the next several months worked to revitalize the existing Community Development Corporation, refocus its by-laws and mission statement towards the new goal of economically developing Barton County.

Out of that Steering Committee's hard work and dedication formed the new, revitalized Barton County Community Development Corporation.  Through grass roots fund raising, they established the Corporation, hired an Economic Developer, and have continued to work to make sure that Barton County is strong and ready for the future by coordinating the efforts of all entities across the county with each municipality, the County government, and the Chamber of Commerce being represented on the Board of Directors.

Robert Harrington

Director of Economic Development

Robert Harrington comes to Barton County from Shelby County.  A native of Marceline Missouri, he has worked in economic development for the past four years.  He has also worked in broadcasting and business management.

He has served on the Missouri Economic Development Council (MEDC) Board of Directors, MEDC Public Policy Committee Co-chair, Rural Mid-America Development Association Board of Directors and is active in his Church and other community organizations as well.  Currently he was selected to work with the Missouri Department of Economic Development on the new strategic planning session, setting out goals and paths for the State initiatives for the coming years.

He is the proud father of four, three boys and a new born baby girl that he and his wife just brought home.  He and his family have strong ties to Barton County and he works hard to improve the conditions of the County – whether in his job as Director of Economic Development, or volunteering for various charities or quality of life events.
